Instead of jumping off the deck like it usually did, this time the opossum ran back towards the cat food bucket that it had been eating out of. There was a towel hanging down in front, so I couldn't see inside, but I tried to push it out with a stick -- wouldn't budge. Eventually, we rigged the Have-a-Heart trap in front of the bucket, added a piece of apple to the trap, secured it down with bungee ties, and threw a tarp over the whole ensemble. In the morning the opossum was in the trap, so we let it go a few miles away, across a river. I got some excellent photos from this episode.
